Where to Stay in Reykjavík: Solo Travelers Guide
Reykjavík is currently going through a hotel boom since the tourism industry has exploded in the last few years. There are so many options to choose from, here are my favorite spots for 2024.
✔️ Kex Hostel
The Kex Hostel is built in a former biscuit factory right next to the water. I love this hostel because it feels more like a boutique hotel than your traditional hostel (they even have a gym!). Heads up, there are limited female only dorms.

✔️ Loft HI Eco Hostel
If you want to be me in the center of it all, Loft HI Eco Hostel is the place to be. The downside to this hostel is it can get loud at night especially on the weekends. The hostel is perfect if you’re more of a night owl, if not be sure to pack some ear plugs!

✔️ Refurinn Guesthouse
The Refurinn Guesthouse is family owned and operated within walking distance to all of the city’s shops and nightlife. The guest house doesn’t have many rooms so I recommend booking early if this is where you want to stay.
✔️ Canopy by Hilton, Reykjavík
I love the location of Canopy by Hilton, Reykjavík, it’s right by the Opera House and of course Bæjarins beztu hot dog stand. Their breakfast is also worth the extra surcharge if you don’t feel like venturing out in the morning.

✔️ Apótek Hotel Reykjavík
Easily my favorite boutique hotel in Scandinavia, Apótek Hotel Reykjavík is the perfect spot for a historic getaway. Their spa is also fantastic, with services offered daily. Apótek also has discounted tickets for the bus to/from the airport.
✔️ Reykjavík Edition
Reykjavík Edition is known as the most luxurious hotel in Reykjavík and for good reason. The hotel opened during the Pandemic so it’s only really been able to shine in the last couple of years. The gym facility is top notch and they also have a beautiful spa, perfect for a cold day in Iceland.

Iceland FAQs
I almost always fly to Europe with Icelandair, connecting through Reykjavík. Here are my top tips for traveling to Reykjavík.
What is The Easiest Way To Get to Reykjavík from the Keflavik Airport?
If you’re not renting a car, the flybus is the easiest way to get to the city center. Buses run every hour and take you directly to the bus terminal in the city. They have an efficient system to help get you directly to your hotel, just let the driver know your final destination.
Is it safe to travel to Iceland alone?
Totally! The Scandinavian countries are known for being some of the safest in the world. It’s also an English speaking country so if you are ever lost or need help, locals are more than happy to assist.
What should I pack for Iceland?
Layers are your friends! Don’t forget Iceland is an island therefore the weather can change instantly. I recommend always having a pair of rain pants and a packable rain coat.
Final Thoughts
Iceland is an incredible island to visit with so much to do any time of year. Whether you’re looking for a place to meet new friends at a hostel or splurge on a luxurious getaway, there’s something for you in Reykjavík.

Wherever you decide to stay, there are plenty of day tours to take on and explore the great outdoors. Now it’s time to start planning your own adventure, Cheers!
